What Does an EMT and Paramedic Do?
Emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and paramedics respond to medical emergencies and deliver patient care, support, and evaluation in a pre-hospital setting, like on the scene and during transport to the hospital. This generally includes assessing the patient, determining the proper emergency care, and administering treatment. As an EMT or paramedic, you will have to know how to use a defibrillator, give CPR, and basic first aid.
EMTs and paramedics work for the county, fire departments, hospitals, or private organizations. Hours and shifts can be challenging. Good physical stamina and strength are important.
